The Hunt, Part Two

The one positive experience that came out of our recent house hunting escapade in the Grant Park area of Atlanta was a refocusing of priorities. Before we almost purchased that house, most of our energy was focused on the house itself. If the neighborhood was nice, and there were signs of life within walking distance, that was gravy.

But something interesting happened while looking at the Grant Park house -- once the love affair with the house wore off, we started thinking about the general area, and realized there wasn't a grocery store, or anything else for that matter, within walking distance; except for a few run down gas stations. If we moved there, we'd spend nearly all our time in the house, and would be forced to drive considerable distances whenever we needed the smallest thing. Like Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream at 1am.

So this past week we decided to focus our efforts on the area we liked the best overall - the Decatur / Oakhurst part of Atlanta. With lots of wonderful Arts and Crafts-style 1920s bungalows, towering oak trees, and independently owned and operated boutique shops and restaurants in the center square, the area is just right for what we really need. If we found an acceptable house, for a good price, within close proximity to area amenities, we'd take it. And yesterday morning, we believe we found just that. Except, the house isn't acceptable. It's fantastic.

I don't want to get too excited, but, we are. Tonight we're going back to do another walkthrough and compile a list of items to put in the offer. Cross your fingers.
