OS X Software: Sony Ericsson Clicker

SECA few days ago I was one of a handful of people, with their jaws touching the floor, watching a mutual friend test drive a demo of the amazing Sony Ericsson Clicker - an app that turns your mobile Sony Ericsson phone into a wireless remote control for OS X. Not only can you control PowerPoint / Keynote presentations, iTunes and your DVD player, but the app also turns your phone into an proximity sensor; allowing your physical presence to trigger application events, like turning iTunes on and off, changing your availability status in iChat, or virtually anything else you can think of with a few lines of AppleScript. The app requires a Sony Ericsson (obviously), as well a Bluetooth-enabled mac. If you have both, or a friend with an Ericsson to borrow for a while, definitely download the demo and give it a try.

Now this alone sounds like a good reason to use a Mac. I'm a IBM PC, either Windows or Linux person, but maybe its time to plunk down some money and get a Mac. Maybe

Someone showed me this the other day and I was blown away. I'm going to end up 'switching' one of these days. In the meantime I'm desperately searching for a PC equivalent. I wish I hadn't sold my soul to Sony last year...

This is accomplished through rendesvous I imagine? Never could an Wintel PC accomplish the things the MAC does so elegantly. Windows is just plain clumsy, that's why majority of PC users don't understand the point of OSX and Apple. They just see that they can basically do the same thing, but when you have the chance to sit down at an OSX enabled G4 for awhile you realize it's just an elegant experience.

I've been using the app with my Sony Ericsson T68i for the past week and I am amazed at how well it works. Nothing but good things to say about this app!

Sounds like a very cool program. My question is how tedious is programming new features in AppleScript? Say you want your screen saver to turn on when you get up from your chair and turn off when you come back. Would that take five hours of coding or ten minutes?

There's an alternative "clicker" app called Romeo that's a freeware version. Although it does not offer Applescripting it does how ever offer a "Mouse Mode" option :-)

I use both and they both rock!

Webspiffy: AppleScript is ridiculously easy

It would probably take you about 3-4 minutes.
=)

3-4 minutes eh? Urge to buy PowerBook from Campus store rising...

I've been playing with Clicker. Having ITunes pause when I leave the room is too damn cool.

I have had the phone for about 2 weeks and I am amazed. ATT wireless is offering $100 rebate (because the new P800 is coming out) so the phone nets out at $50. In a selfless act of stimulating the economy, I used that "savings" to buy the Jabra FreeSpeak wireless headset.

MacCentral lists some great free/shareware I've been using:

T68 ThemeEdit allows you to control the display colors of the phone.

Ringtone Coverter compose or convert ringtones for transfer.

Universal Ringtone Converter convert ringtones from any phone.

T68i Dialer dial numbers from your OS X 10.2 address book. Why? I dunno...

I also stumbled across this page that provides information on image and files transfer information to the phone.

Can you tell I am in love with this thing?

I have bought a T68i to replace my Palm Pilot a few months ago. It syncs beautifully and keeps my addresses and calendars on my home Mac, work Mac and phone all tidy - the only things I really used that Palm for anyhow.

I'm definitely going to check out this app - sounds great!

For all of you who haven't yet bought your t68i, check out S-E's new phone, the T610

Now I have to upgrade before I become a 'has been'.

I've heard that the Clicker is very cool. Blue tooth offers many cool options when it comes to things like this. I'm looking foward to seeing what comes out next.

There's been a PC app that does this that has been out for over a year - look for 'PCControl'.

And for some self-pimping, I did something similar for a wearable computing project.
