The Human Body is Obscene
You can blow up buildings, smack people over the head with folding chairs, and tunnel through sundry orifices on CSI, yet people get all bent out of shape and flood the FCC with complaints over the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last night on CBS. If anything was obscene, it was the packaging of an hour long advertisement as entertainment. Then again, hardly anyone notices the difference anymore.

Weird isn't it? I was at a talk given by Patria Cornwall on her new book about Jack the Ripper. he would talk about the murders of the unfortunate women in deep detail and yet demured when talking of the possibe deformed penis of her Ripper suspect. I thought it was all a bit odd.

More boobs on television and fewer guns and murders can only be a good thing, in my opinion. But I'm Canadian. That's practically European to some of you Americans :)

Guy Debord said it all in The Society Of The Spectacle:

throw out your telescreen. Or at least use it for anything other than network television.
God, if i could escape the inane prattling in my office about The Bachelor.....

Very nicely said, Todd. We Americans have so misplaced our outrage, particularly as compared to Europeans (or Canadians -- what's the diff? Kidding, I'm married to a Canuck). Heaven forbid we admire the form of the human body when there's bloodshed to be witnessed.
On an only somewhat related note, have you stopped pinging weblogs.com? I have you on my blogrolling.com list, but your site never shows as updated. Curious.

I'm with James - More boobs!
For real dough. I can hardly watch the nightly news anymore it's so depressing. It's seems to be all about death. What's wrong with a little sex now and then? I mean it's supposed to ultimately end up with a new life. Isn't that a good thing?

It wouldn't surprise me if the Victoria Secret people themselves called the FCC in order to prolong the publicity.

yeah, we can watch soft porn in the daytime with soaps but god forbid... the horror of gorgeous women in underwear.

Why didn't those people just turn the channel to Fox News?

For this very reason I do not have cable television, and the bunny ears on my tv are broken. I spend my tv time either watching what I want to watch (DVD's), playing video games, or curling up with a good book. I don't need a television (or a movie screen for that matter) forcing me to watch crap like models in panties, faux reality series, and what not.

The website for the show is the funniest. I espescially like how Heidi Klum hosts herself, and how the poll asking for people's favorite aspect of the show currently has 61% for models over 27% for the lingerie.
