Little Timmy Goes to Hell

My brother sent me links to some truly bizarre, utterly hilarious Christian comics, including a supposed Halloween story where a young boy named Timmy goes to Hell, and another starring Bad Bob, a grissly biker type who changes his ways after his cell mate burns to death in a unexplained fire and ends up, you guessed it, in Hell! I would order a whole book of these.

Oh yeah, Chick Publications. Purveyors of Fine Fundamentalist Literature Since ... who knows when. Every once in a while, if you're lucky, you can find one or two of these lying on a bench at the MARTA stations, or other public places.

Just to make sure I'm not stepping on toes, I'm poking fun at the overbearing morality and morbidity of the comics, not the religion.

It's that kind of crap, and more, that give Christianity a bad rap.

Har. I occasionally find a ream or two of these laying around my school; truly makes you wonder why... What do they think they're accomplishing? Do you think anybody ever actually read these and converted themselves?

That site reads like a parody.

Exactly.

from your posts, i figure none of you grew up in a fundamentalist christian home. i remember chick tracts, the most vivid in my mind is the one concerning the beast--scared me out of my mind.

though the tracts are heavy-handed & use rhetoric that most people see as completely anachronistic, the chick tracts clearly spell out fundamentalist christian dogma, whether it be the worship of mary, the misguided roman catholic church, or creationism.

things get more interesting when the tracts examine contemporary issues, like homosexuality (i never read this one as a kid, though i heard the same story from the pulpit every other sunday), alcoholism, aids in africa, even today's situtation in the middle east.

though i believe these tracks are completely off-track (pun intended) & ultimately harmful, i do realize that they are an attempt to do good. the people that pass them out are trying to make a difference, even if it provokes most of us to roll our eyes, laugh, or mock them. but then again, they expect that. that's what bad bob did, right?. & look what happened to him.

go ahead and poke fun - but what if, just what if they are right?

Xtians sure annoy everyone around! They seem to have lost their last bits of common sense and are ever since in desperate need to gospel stupidity. Hail!

Then I'm sure, quite sure, that most of us are going to hell.

Ahh...yes...the old Chick rags. It’s hard to take them seriously, I would always wince when I would bring a friend to church and they would see those. =) I grew up in the Church of Christ--fairly conservative as they go. I would see these sitting out at some churches I went to (we moved a lot, USAF), and I was never sure what to think of them. I never felt like they represented *any* of either the core tenets of our faith, or were representations of how true Christians are supposed to behave.
I’m not here to deliver a sermon now ("mmmhmm...preach it brotha!"), but I just want to make the point that these pubs are considered “fringe”--even within conservative churches. Most of my fellow Christians live in the real world. and don’t think like that.
I haven’t seen one in years, I think the ppl (the old hard-liners) who posted them have all died off.
To sum up: these pubs don’t reflect reality for Christians today. I find fear [of Hell] to be a poor motivator; I’m motivated by the love, example and physical sacrifice of a man who died for me millenia ago.

Oy! To think that all of the good that Jews, Muslims, Hindis, Sufis, Pagans, Atheists have done has been for naught. They may as well have been serial murders.

I wonder if Hitler repented before he stuck his gun in his mouth (or swallowed the cyanide capsule - whatever school of thought you profess to).

That would mean that that all of the JEWS he murdered are burning in hell while he gets a pedicure from Mary Magdalene.

I’m gonna fill out that order form and get me some salvation!

Give me a break - this stuff isn’t harmless. Plenty of lives ruined with even milder crap than this.

we had a note in our church publication about a halloween part. It forbidding anyone's kids to come anyone coming dressed like a "...witch, ghost, or anything associated with the occult"

I thought, "what about coming dressed as a preacher."
