New Apple Switch Ads

Apple has debuted five new switch ads featuring two enormous sports celebrities - skateboarder Tony Hawk (who seems a little bored) and professional surfer Kelly Slater (who also seems bored...or maybe a little stoned), the sorta-known musician DJ Qbert (he may not be a household name, but he's quite a charmer), an umbrella manufacturer who switched his whole business to Macs, and my personal favorite - Gianni Jacklone - a guy who could be running an IT Department for Tony Soprano. In a sharp departure from other "switcher" ads, Gianni claims he never used Macs because he'd "hated them [his] entire life." Ouch. Tough words for legacy Mac users, but an accurate, popular sentiment among countless Windows users in need of a second look.

Now, if only they could get Tommy Lee. I was sucked into watching one of the multitude of VH1 shows devoted to the former great rock drummer. He was working away on his PowerBook for most of the episode.

Nikki Sixx also uses Macs - i saw a profile on his home studio on TV once -- A G4 plugged into a 42-inch plasma display :) Now that's gotta need at least a 4MB desktop picture....

"My name's Gianni, and don't ever ask me about my business."

"I just plug it in and fogettaboutit"- Gianni

so the moral of the story is, even potheads can use a mac. i think that's the next slogan. or steve jobs: don't bogart my powerbook, man.

Dj Qbert is sorta-known? I've never even heard of Kelly Slater before, but Q-Bert's a household name in most houses I'm in.

tommy lee and nikki sixx should be in a switch ad together:
"When we ran out of heroin, we would mainline Jack Daniels, but we could STILL operate our Macs."

If any switch ad person deserves a cult following its Janie Porche (saved Christmas), whatta total hottie.

So, does Gianni ship, um, herb to Ellen, Qbert, Kelly, and Tony?

I still laugh at "plug-n-get-mad".

And the absolute best part is that they left the wonderful Hamilton Morris ad up. They had it up a while ago, then they added a few more and good old Hamilton dissappeared. He thankfully reappeared and he stays to this day!

Yes!

Hehehe... Ellen and Hamilton need to get together. They're perfect for each other. If for no other reason than to share a nickelbag.

Gotta love those ads. They had nothing to do with my switch - but gotta love 'em. I get my powerbook tomorrow - my first mac since I was about 11 years old! Hope I love it enough to want to be in one of those ads down the road.

I still love the Will Ferrell one. ;)

So... we have Hawk for skaters, Slater for surfers. We would need Haakonsen for snowboarders + someone for BMX-guys and we would have a total line-up of extreme sportsmen.

Check out his email to Apple, it gets better.

"Iíve got a wall in my room. Iíve got 15 computers on a wall, and a desk that raises with hydraulic lifts, so I can feel like a mad scientist at 5:00 in the morning, just typing away."

A hydraulic lifting desk? Where do these people come from?

I do not like the switch ads at all. The one with the long haired guy, talking about his daughter waking him up in the morning because she cannot print and he was "switching cards" in the computer ??? What does he know ? Last I checked, all computers (mac and otherwise) come with USB and Parallel port cards built in, so what cards was he switching.

Makes me question the claim that these are not paid actors reading scripts.

I also keep reading that mac is targeting Microsoft with these ads?
I did not know Microsoft made computers.

And lastly, Mac is the big evil one !
Yes I said it.

Mac, does the OS, and the computer, and doesnt let ANYONE ELSE do either. You get no choices.

Dell does the computer, or sony, or gateway, see...you have choices. Or you can build it yourself. Microsoft is the preferred os, but you can go linux, unix, etc.

but not with the mac, its all mac, by mac.
And the cost is SOOOOOOO high, and the upgradeability is SOOOOO low.
Until mac fixes that, they will not gain market share !
