Anna Nicole

I'll admit it - I watched the premiere of the Anna Nicole Show last night. If I liked to lie, I would brush it off as a "well there wasn't anything else on," but the truth is I wanted to see it.

The show is basically a rip of MTV's Osbournes but with Anna Nicole Smith, that blonde Guess jeans girl who married a hundred year-old prune and made off with millions of his estate, and her merry crew of assistants. Cameras follow Smith around as she eats, giggles, cries, rolls on the floor, and slurs her speech every time she opens her mouth. And it was the latter part that turned an otherwise funny show into a disturbing one.

Contrary to Ozzy, who is sober and irreversably absent minded (hilariously so) after decades of substance abuse, Smith seems dangerously stoned out of her mind - right now. Not just stoned, but mentally unbalanced to the point where her antics aren't funny at all - they're sad; as sad as watching a bloated, pill popping Elvis in the late seventies, sweating like a pig in his rhinestone suits, face tired and withdrawn. And like Elvis, everyone around Smith just laughs, rolls their eyes, and escorts (and at times carries) Anna anywhere she wants to go. Everywhere, of course, except a place to get the woman some help.

Comments

I am so forever grateful to all the powers of the universe that my satellite card got blown out just a few short hours before this show started. I consider myself saved.

So, Todd... Will you be tuning in for the next episode?

It was quite possibly the most depressing thing I 've ever seen on television. All the humor left the show with the first shot of a glazed Anna Nicole mindlessly humping someone else's pink bedspread. The poor woman is going to kill herself when she sees this thing air.

I watched the show as well. It wasn't all that bad. She's a bit smarter than we give her credit for. It was a bit sad, however, watching her trip so much.

It was obvious from the interspersed "sit down" interview segments that she can put more thatn two words togerher adn carry on a "un-slurred" conversation.

I agree that this is the anti-osbournes in that this just feel SO exploitive rather than entertaining. This is a woman that is on course for a serious meltdown.

Was anyone else disturbed by the opening cartoon where her deceased husband just goes *poof* and disappears? Just a tad disrespectful to his family. Not quite enough time has passed since her money grubbing, '$100,000 isn't enough for my Christmas presents' trial debacle to make jokes about his death and hear her talk about the money rolling in soon. Sad

Gah! Did anyone catch a look at her horrible embarassed son (or it looked like her son... does she HAVE a son?!) ?! Handsome little devil he is, from what I gathered from his cowering figure, but my God. To have Anna Nicole as your mother must be, like, well... having Anna Nicole as your mother.

But like Jay Leno said tonight... despite a lot of jokes talking about Anna Nicole's stupidity, I mean, how dumb can the broad be if she ends up 80+ million dollars richer and her own TV show? =P

And as for Ozzy being sober, I read Maxim Blender's interview with the family and Sharon's been quoted in to say that almost all the times Ozzy had his hair in a pony tail, he'd been drinking. Then Ozzy pipes up and says he still likes to have a drink or two. And then Kelly got all pissed off and told them both to shut up about the family problems. LOL. It's even funny reading their interviews.

I think the difference between The Osbournes and Anna Nicole's show is that, well, there some sort of "integrity" remaining in The Osbournes largely because the family remains genuine and true to themselves. Anna Nicole, like her love for her ex-husband, seems to be about as plastic as everything about her.

The funny thing is that she isn't as slurred in all of the clips. When she's doing "interviews", she seems only sort of slow, not REALLY slow like the rest of the show.

Reality shows usually show the subject in an environment where the cameras go unoticed. This show just gives Anna Nicole a vehicle to vamp at the camera and whine incessantly until I HAD to turn the channel. I thought that I would give this show a chance since I love the whole reality show genre. I even watched the 2 hour "True Hollywood Story" that could have fit into 1 hour...my conclusion...who cares? She had her 15 minutes and E! is wasting huge quantities of money on PR and promo's and posting vintage pics to get people to watch the show. Let's face it a day in the life of Anna Nicole is boring...they put her in situations and try to make it worth watching...it's NOT.

Plus..how many times did she stumble and/or fall during the first show?

'Good Lord' who let the dogs out..This show is the worst thing I've seen in my 50 years of watching TV. I find Anna so repulsive I have to change the channel everytime it invades my television space. My wife tries to watch her outragious antics but I get this quezy feeling in my gut like god might be watching me watch this and its makin him angry!

This show needs a rating on it..its not fit for young children ..adults or any other living thing that can work a remote control!

I liked the Osbournes, because at least with them, thats really the way they act, with Anna, in my opinion, she is just a fat used to be who needs to get a clue adn face facts that shes not the playmate she was so many years ago. Oh, yeah, adn the fact that she cant fit into a tub in a house she wanted had nothin to do with the fact that she ate chocolate that day, but rather the fact that her ass is sooo unusually large, that it simply wouldnt fit. I also think she should ditch her Mimi-like makeup and booze and maybe try to loose some of the wieght so if she insists on wearin the clothes that she does, she might look halfway decent....thanx!

gosh, i liked it. i thought it was freakin hilarious! but i guess im sick that way. the osbournes is still funnier, but anna nicole is a marvel. i pity her poor son though...he didnt ask to be abused this way. ;)
