Apple buys Emagic, makers of Logic
Looks like my original prediction of Apple buying a high end audio application company has come true. Wasn't Pro Tools per se, but close enough.

That's great - now if Apple will go back to putting sound inputs on their products...

No kidding! My 4 year old G3 has better sound connectivity and software than my brand spankin new G4....

Hey, sound input yes, analog no. Stanton even makes turntables with direct digital outputs nowadays, and USB a/d converters are relatively inexpensive nowadays. Now, a built-in microphone might be a nifty idea (maybe multiple condenser mikes for noise cancelling and direction sensing) - but for speech recognition only. Everyone's audio needs are different - ranging from simple audio in, to headset mikes for ViaVoice, all the way to multitrack ADAT optical pipes - so it's perhaps best that hardware choice be left up to the individual user, and Apple just sticks to making it all work flawlessly.
That being said, Apple is getting more than just Logic out of this, they are also getting some swanky audio hardware - i can see Apple reselling those EMI 6|2 audio interfaces from the Apple Store: maybe bundled with Logic, preinstalled on G4s and TiBooks?

I'm a little perplexed that Apple after buying Emagic decided to stop developing Windows version of Logic Audio. This is the stupidiest business move I've seen. Why would they just forget about the 1/3 revenue that Windows platform garnishers? Come ON I know you want to sell Machintosh computers in a declining market, but I do not see customers forking over $2000 to buy a machintosh just to run a $600 audio software program.
