Flash Player 6 Public Beta

If this isn't a sign that Flash 6 is coming soon, I don't know what is. Macromedia has posted a public beta of Flash Player 6 available for download. All flavors of Windows, Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

Macromedia has also released a a Flash 6 deployment kit for Windows and Macintosh to aid in the detection of Flash players.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Note that because this beta plug-in is version "6.0", chances are a number of web sites (including mine) that use JavaScript player detection scripts will fail. Mine for example shoots the user over to a page to download the latest plug-in. If you do decide to update, be sure to copy your 5.0 browser plug-in somewhere so you can get back. Cause right now, 0.00000001% of the world'd browsers support Flash 6. ;)

Flash developers know all too well the problems that Macromedia's Mac Flash plug-in has had, especially with obtaining accurate frames per second. I'm going to do some test runs in both OS 9 and OS X using Player 5 and 6 and see what happens. I'll post the results here a little later.
