2001 - What a Year

2001 was a year we'll never forget. Today, after weeks of media speculation, Time Magazine named Rudy Giuliani as their 2001 Person of the Year.

It's an amazing transformation of a political figure, especially one as polarizing as Giuliani, into a national leader in time of crisis. He was smart, calm, and gracious when handling both the tragedy itself, and the President. It was obvious in the days surrounding September 11th that most of the country felt closer, and more secure with Giuliani's leadership than Bush. Giuliani made great strides to clearly define the lines of responsibility, and praised the President while others were unsure. His humble candor, especially for a notoriously publicity hungry politician, was a sight to remember.

Over at CNN, there's plenty of year-end content to put 2001 into perspective.

Let's hope that 2001 is truly closed for the history books, and we all have a peaceful holiday and new year.
