Blessing in disguise
Today I feel like I have a new pair of eyes. My trusty old Apple CRT suddenly died yesterday, and I wasted almost a whole work day trying to figure out what was wrong. The screen would flip on, then off, then on again, and...yes, back off. This little diversion happened all day long. The monitor was well out of warranty, and everyone I asked just shrugged their shoulders.
So today I feel quite guilty, and my pocketbook took a beating, but I replaced the old dog with a new 17-inch LCD Apple Studio Display. My oh my...it's simply astonishing to look at. My G4 doesn't feel like the same machine. The screen is crisp, colorful, expansive, and a beauty to look at. I have an old yellowing 21" Dell monitor nearby, and the 17" LCD's screen space is about the same size, but without that curved fishbowl effect, or blurred type. Combined with OSX and it's Quartz graphics engine, it's just gorgeous. If you're a Mac user looking for some holiday cheer, put this baby at the top of your wish list. You won't regret it.
